Location: Lillehammer, Norway

Updated April 2012: For the longest time I lived on the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland with my better half and our gerbils. A few years back we moved back to Norway, and are now quite settled in our idyllic corner of the world (Lillehammer). We now have 4 gerbils after an unfortunate case of mistaken gender. The number of sewing machines have reduced to just 3, the pattern and fabrics collection got so large it could no longer be contained, and are now residing in 3 large, double width chest of drawers in our new home. Stay tuned for musings on patterns, books and all things vintage.

hmmm

I started testing out a couple of the embroidery designs this weekend. They turned out quite all right, as a starting point, anyway. They look very Elizabethan, and they are a bit to stylized at the moment, but they can work out quite well as guideline. The next step is to buy some black cloth (more realistic background), and buy some coloured thread, beads and perhaps also some sequins and test the boundaries of the imagination. Or more accurately, my skills.

Yes!

I am really happy! I do believe I have forund the solution to the enbellishment challenge on Stigs outfit. I have been browsing for ideas on the net, and to be perfectly frank, gotten quite discouraged when checking out the original Habits á là Francaises out there. They are obviously done by very skilled people who have been doing this for a life time or two. But, as I browsed through some pages today I entered a Blackwork page http://www.blackworkarchives.com/ with loads of patterns for simple, yet ornamental embroidery. So now I'm set on trying out a couple of these patterns, and see which one would be the better choise.

Happy now =)

Research

I am still concerned about the wedding outfits, and to calm my performance anxiety I have been reading up on embellishments and tailoring techniques. I am trying out my tailoring skills on a coachmans coat I am making for Stig. Seems to be working, but to be on the safe side I have ordered a book om mens garments from 1600-1900 from www.amazon.ca. Just a tip, the canadian amazon is by far the one with the nicest prices. I have also ordered seven new presser feet for my lovely new sewing machine from a retailer in town. They are supposed to make sewing a whole lot easier. Which is good. Although what I really need is a huge sewing table. Preferably one with a lowered spot for the sewing machine to fit in. (Perhaps I could ask on of my lovely brothers to make one for me when we've moved back to Norway.)

I got a mail from Mari yesterday asking for the date and venue. The date is set for june 6th, 2006. We have not yet decided on the venue. It will most likely be in Norway, but we're not sure where.

costumes

Wedding outfits... Very, very important. I have googled for months to find the perfect design for out outfits, and we have finally decided on a victorian costume for me and an Habit á là Francaise for Stig. Think Lestat, and there you have it. Only thing that worries me is I will have to learn how to do embroidery and beading. I am seriously concidering buying an embroidery machine.

The original plan was to start working on the outfits 6 months before the wedding, but I will probably have to commence as soon as possible, due to all the preparatory work I will need to put down. So the new goal is to get hold of the fabrics, beads etc needed by the end of July. The late date is a consequence of me promising to make a friends wedding dress. I recon it will take me a few months to complete it. And as her wedding is set for July 8th, July seems a realistic goal. And, if I make any other such promises before our wedding, they shall have to be forfilled after the wedding and honeymoon ;-)

The Wedding Blog is up

With only 1 year and 4 months to our wedding, it is kinda getting time to start getting organised. Hence this little venture out into the world of blogging. It is new for the both of us, but it will ideally serve as some sort of diary we can look back on once the panic has died down and the family is talking to us again.
